Carley Returns with “Dirty Laundry”
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Carley Varley’s new song “Dirty Laundry” is a fragile yet defiant account of honesty (and dishonesty), and the realization of incompatibility (“you’re heading for the window, I’m running for the door”). It’s a very well written song with evocative lyrics, and just as it would become repetitive it changes pace, bringing in a haunting choir and Carley’s lead vocals become stronger to deliver the final verdict “the skeletons are dancing in your closet, they only do that when you’re dishonest,” to then fall back to their fragile self. A great, immersive song – somber yet not without hope.

I am a musician from the UK ☺️. I have been releasing music since 2019 with my EP Captured Memories. Sadly due to covid, my Seasons EP was delayed but it will be released this September. My single Dirty Laundry is a separate project that was recorded by me at home as I was working on producing.
My friend Valentino Delgado mastered the track and did an amazing job. My music is many genres rolled into one as I have a lot of influences, I enjoy writing deep and meaningful lyrics and I like to make my listeners reflect and relate to the songs.
Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration for this new single?
Released 4/30/21. Dirty Laundry was written after I watched one of my favorite shows The Vampire Diaries. After watching an episode I felt inspired to write about a toxic relationship. A few of my friends had spoken about leaving relationships and that they wish they’d left sooner and so I wrote from this perspective and it was really fun.
Although the lyrics are sad and questioning everything…
…the song is constantly moving and going back to the hook much like someone who goes back to their partner over and over even when they are unhappy. I was inspired to write something different and I’m glad that I did.
What was your vision for this song? What lessons would you like to impart to your audience?
I hope this song inspires others to write and create. I hope if someone is in this situation that they have the courage to leave and be free and happy. It’s an easy listening song so more than anything I just hope that it is enjoyed and listened to on repeat!
