Kala drops a memorable summer song!
Hi Kala, welcome to VQS!
Tell us a little bit about you and your music.
Kala uses melody-driven songwriting with ambitious arrangements to tell the listener about experiences that they might have in common. In February 2021, Kala Boti released a single called Strawberry Ice Cream which led to an increase in local support from radio hosts such as Sean McGinty from BBC Radio Lancashire, and a number of radio features on BBC Introducing Lancashire.
Kala is currently working on his next EP set to come out in the summer of 2021, which will include his track called ‘Shining’ as introduced on BBC Radio Lancashire by Sharon Hartley.
Congrats on the release! What was your inspiration for this new song?
Released June 25, 2021. Shining is a groovy summer bop with a vintage soul feel. It’s all about being in the early stages of falling in love. It describes the feeling of going back and forth between being convinced you’re falling for someone and questioning whether the relationship is at a ‘red light’ or a ‘green light’.
The song combines a catchy guitar hook, a groovy bass line, and relatable lyrics to create a memorable summer song.
What lessons would you like to impart with your audience?
That love can be tricky and difficult but that optimism can still be a beautiful part of the journey.
What is your favorite part of the song?
There is a breakdown after the second chorus, where you can hear an orchestral arrangement of violins, flutes and trombones. It’s my favourite part because in terms of production, it elevates the song so well.
Anything else we should know about it? Future releases?
There is an accompanying EP that will come out this summer!
