We get in life what we work for, not what we wish for.

Hi Flaviya, welcome to VQS, tell us how you got started in Music?

flaviya music producer singer-songwriter

I started being passionate about music since I was little. I would grab a toy or any kind of device to pretend that I sing into a microphone. So my parents enrolled me into a classical music school where I studied flute and piano.

I was too shy to take a wordy role in our school plays, so I would pick up the role with fewer words, but then I would sing the entire play to my grandma at home. I knew everyone’s role and song by heart.

What new projects are you working on now?

Lots of things happened in my life in the last 6 months. I joined the Producers and Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy. Then I was invited to join the Music Producers Alliance in New York as a mentor. We have weekly meetings to help new produces polish their skills.

I gave a masterclass on Modern Vocal Production for this organization and then we did a 2-day bootcamp that is now available online as a course.

I signed 3 songs in a row with dance music labels right before Christmas, and then got selected for the Grammy

Next program 2021 as a producer by the Recording Academy. Right now I’m promoting my brand new dance project Duck The Bass with some help from a team that worked with Afrojack. This helps me stay focused and more organized.

What core values do you believe are necessary for success?

It is important to be confident about your skills and knowledge. Of course, only if you truly have them. People don’t feel confident most of the times, so they have a tendency to follow and listen to those who show confidence.

Another good rule I recently discovered, ironically form a comedy movie Latin Lover, that we get in life what we work for, not what we wish for. This became my daily reminder to work towards my goals.

And also be patient. When we do the first steps in what we love, many things and people may disappoint us, to the point that we want to give up. It is important to be patient. You’ll see how with your growth the people surrounding you and the projects you are involved in get better and better.

Who have been some of your favorite people/projects to work with?

music producer

I recently had a very cool project – an Electro Swing remix I made for an LA-based songwriter Diana Ohmann. Electro Swing is a fun genre to make.

Right now I’m working on a song written with a multi-award winning songwriter and TV judge from the UK, and another song with The Voice winner singer and Eurovision grand-finalist.

Besides these projects I am working on 9 other songs at the moment. If I’ll be working like this, soon I may need ghost producers, ha-ha.

What future opportunities would you like to be involved with?

I want to collaborate with amazing producers like Pharrell Williams, Diplo, Max Martin, Disclosure, and many people from the dance music world, like Don Diablo, Steve Aoki, or a less known duo Donkong that is one of the best in Bass music now.
